Email Attachments in Outlook Express

Working with Email Attachments: Attachments are the files sent along with any email. These can be doc files of MS Word, JPEG image files, PDF files of Adobe Acrobat etc. Before you send any attachment with a mail message, it is good to know that the recipient has the mail program to accept that attachment, and the recipient has software to open that attachment, which you are going to send.

Process of Sending an Email Attachment: You can attach files easily from the New Message window; the steps are described below

  1. First, select New
  2. Then, from the File menu, select Mail Message OR simply click New Mail
  3. After clicking, the New Message window displays
  4. From the Insert menu, select File Attachment OR simple click Attach
  5. After you click, the Insert Attachment window displays
  6. Select the file required to be attached with this mail
  7. Then, click Attach
  8. The icon of attachment icon and its filename appears in the Attach area, which located at the bottom of the message header
  9. You can then type the desired text in the message composition area
  10.  Finally, click Send
  11. sThe mail along with the attachment will be sent to required receiver

Two Options to Open Attachments: With Outlook Express email application, you get two options, either to open the email attachment in its native application (e.g. to open doc file in MS Word) or to save the email attachment to your local hard drive.

a)How to Open an Email Attachment? Below are the steps to open the email attachment that has come along with a mail message

  1. Double-click the email message whose attachment you wish to open
  2. Double-click the icon of attachment

b) How to Save an Email Attachment? To save attachment to local hard drive, follow the steps given below

  1. Double-click the email with which the attachment has come that you want to save to your local hard drive
  2. Right-click the attachment's icon
  3. Then, select Save As
  4. Save Attachment As window will be displayed
  5. Now, select the file type
  6. And, enter a filename
  7. Then, select the directory in which you want to save the file
  8. Finally, click Save s
Useful Tip: If you receive bulky attachments witssh your emails, then to avoid stuffing your email space too much, you can move the attachments to your local hard drive.
